COUNTDOWN: 10 TV VILLAINS WHO TURNED GOOD
#4: Vegeta - Dragon Ball Z
Vegeta is the only animated character to appear on this list, and I justify that decision based on the fact that Dragon Ball Z was arguably the most popular and mainstream anime ever created. He is the prince of the fallen Sayain race and the primary rival of the show’s central hero and fellow Sayain, Goku. Their planet was destroyed by the evil alien, Frieza, and Vegeta was forced to work for him to survive. While serving Frieza, Vegeta comes head to head with the Z-Fighters on multiple occasions. By fighting opponents and thereby gaining more power, Vegeta plans to bring down Frieza once and for all. However, he fails to do much damage when the battle finally happens. Frieza takes out the Z-Fighters one by one, but Goku manges to defeat him after achieving a new level of strength known as Super Sayain. Vegeta becomes jealous and obsessed with Goku, and he trains for a long time in order to beat him. Ultimately, the two are forced to work together to fight off several threats to Earth. Over time, Vegeta’s hatred for Goku begins to diminish and he becomes a valuable asset to the Z-Fighters.
Vegeta is one of the most prominent characters on the show, and a great deal of time is spent explaining his back story and showing his character development. He is originally only interested in power, but his outlook on life begins to change over time. Most people can relate to Vegeta’s frustration with being labeled ‘second best.’ Once he stopped being so prideful and power hungry, Vegeta actually became stronger than he ever would have otherwise.
